Auditions coming up for Best Christmas Pageant Ever

SoVaNow.com / September 13, 2017

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (titled “The Worst Kids in the World” in Australia, New Zealand and the UK) is a book written by Barbara Robinson in 1971 and later adapted for the stage. It tells the story of Imogene, Claude, Ralph, Leroy, Ollie, and Gladys, six delinquent children named the Herdmans who were engaged in misfit behavior for their age such as smoking, drinking jug wine, and shoplifting. They go to church for the first time after being told that the church offers snacks. Despite protests from other church members, they are given roles in the Sunday school’s Christmas play, in which they tell the Christmas story in a nonconventional fashion.

The Prizery in South Boston will hold auditions for this theatre classic on Monday, Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. There are roles for students and adults ages 8 to 88. No singing or dancing required. Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script.

Performance dates for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever are Dec. 8 and 15 at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 9 and 16 at 11 a.m. and Dec. 10 and 17 at 3 p.m. plus two daytime performances for school students on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
