Lake Gaston Battle of the BBQ moves to new location

SoVaNow.com / April 10, 2013
On Saturday, May 25 the Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Gaston Lions Club will hold a joint event at the home of the Lions Club at 139 Stanley Road, Henrico, N.C. Starting at noon the chamber will start serving for the 21st annual Battle of the Barbeque and at 4 p.m. the Lions Club will start serving their annual Fish Fry meal.

The Lions Club location is a new venue for the Battle of the BBQ. It used to be held at the Lake Gaston Chamber property at 2475 Eaton Ferry Road in Littleton, N.C., at the corner next to the Food Lion Plaza. Since that property has been sold and there is not enough room at the new location, the Lions Club has graciously invited the Chamber to use their grounds to hold the BBQ.

Cookers will arrive on Friday and will cook pigs through the night. Judging will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday; there will be four culinary prizes awarded and two showmanship awards. Barbeque will be served from noon-3 p.m. or until sold out. You can purchase a plate which includes barbeque, potatoes, coleslaw and a roll or a pint of barbeque for $7. The Lions Club will start serving their fish fry at 4 p.m. until 6:30 or sold out. The cost is $7 a plate which includes two pieces of fish, coleslaw, hush puppies, beans and a drink.

There will be a drive through for “pick ups” and “eat in” seating for both events. There will also be vendors and music. Please join the Chamber on Saturday, May 25 for a full day of great fun.
