Signups Now Open for Young People’s Theatre Workshop at Lakeland

Lakeland Theatre Company announces that its annual summer Young People’s Theatre Workshop is now set to begin on June 21. This workshop will focus on all aspects of theatre and dramatic production, including acting, movement, dance, pantomime, and improvisation, as well as lighting, set painting, sound, costuming, and stage management. The workshop will be taught by adult and student instructors with extensive experience in the theatre arts. Registration is open to all young people 11 years of age and older. Space is limited to 40 paid students, and Lakeland is accepting names now.

The workshop will begin on Monday morning, June 21, at 9:30 a.m. and will run each day until approximately 3:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, for three weeks. On Friday, beginning on July 16, the students will present The Music Man, Jr. on stage at Lakeland for a two-weekend run, ending on Saturday, July 24. Music Man Jr. is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International, Inc., New York, New York.

The cost of this workshop is only $150 per student ($100 for members of Lakeland), and includes a workshop/show t-shirt and a performance video for each student. A limited number of scholarships are available. Call Lakeland at (252)-586-5577 or 586-3124, or our toll-free number 1-877-330-0574 for more information and registration forms.

Children’s Youth Theatre Camp Taking Registrations at Lakeland Theatre Company

Lakeland Theatre Company announces the continuation of its popular “Lakeland Theatre Camp”, a three-week summer theatre camp for young people ages 6-10 years old. The workshop will begin on Monday, June 29 and run through Saturday, July 17, with classes Tuesday through Saturday for both weeks. Camp will begin every day at 1:30 p.m., and will conclude each day around 3:00 p.m. This camp will teach attendees the basics of theatre, including acting, stage movement, improvisational techniques, voice, dance, and much more.

Taught through a combination of theatre games and “rehearsal” for a production of The Music Man Jr. at the conclusion of the camp, students and instructors will explore the fascinating and challenging world of the performing arts from many angles. The course will be taught by adult instructors who have over 50 years combined experience in theatre, and by older teenagers who have attended Lakeland’s Summer Theatre Workshop for several years.

The Lakeland Theatre Camp costs $100 per student for the full two-week period, and members of Lakeland Theatre Company can attend for $75. This fee includes a t-shirt and a video of the production.

For more information and an application form, please contact Lakeland Theatre Company at (252)-586-3124, (252)-586-5577, or toll-free at 1-877-330-0574. Registration is limited to the first 40 paid students.

Godspell Opens at Lakeland Theatre Company on April 30

Join Lakeland Theatre Company for an amazing musical for the whole family in April and May. Godspell, the popular and ground-breaking reflection on the life of Jesus, was adapted from the Gospel according to St. Matthew by Stephen Schwartz.

This show will thrill your hearts and minds as the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly to life on stage with warmth, wit and a healthy dose of humor, too.

Directed by Wally Hurst, this show will leave you with songs to sing and a message to think about. With music direction by Buster Freeze and choreography by Tia Bedwell and Maria Hurst, this fast-paced show is sure to be a huge hit — just as it was in 2001 at Lakeland. Godspell is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International, Inc. New York, New York.

The cast stars Jason Stewart as Jesus and Bill Young as John The Baptist/Judas, and includes Tia Bedwell, Daniel Dunlow, Diana Marker, Kelsey Smith, Wyatt Greer, Mary Lou Cheek Burroughs, Kjersti deVries, Cathy McDonald, and Virginia Martin. As they form a community of faith, they grow closer together and realize their true potential because of Jesus’ teachings.

Godspell opens on April 30, and plays on Friday and Saturday nights, April 30, May 1, 7, 8, 14 and 15, and on Sunday afternoon, May 16 (last performance). Friday and Saturday evening shows begin at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday matinees start at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students and children. Opening night dinner will be served on Friday, April 30 and costs an extra $17 per person, including beverages and tips.

Discounts are available for members of Lakeland and for groups of 15 or more adults. If you have a larger group, ask us how we can help you raise money for your organization by selling tickets and having a special show and/or recognition for your group!

Reservations and information are available at 252-586-3124, or toll-free at 1-877-330-0574, so make your plans now to see this great show.
