Prizery hosts ‘A Night at the Movies’
SoVaNow.com / January 09, 2013Everyone loves a good movie, right? One of the most important elements in a good film is the soundtrack. The music that underscores a film adds drama, terror or lets us know that something is about to happen. It can make us feel more acutely the love that is developing between characters or the hate that they have for each other. Music provides clues for the audience. It helps us know how to feel.
Well, join The Prizery on Friday night, Jan. 25 at 7:30 as the Rainier Trio presents “A Night at the Movies.” Some of the movie themes that you will hear include John Williams’ themes for “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Schindler’s List,” the haunting Lara’s theme from “Dr. Zhivago” by Maurice Jarre, along with two selections from Ennio Morricone soundtracks for “The Legend of 1900” and Gabriel’s Oboe from “The Mission.” You will also be treated to “The Entertainer” by Scott Joplin, the theme from “Exodus” by Ernest Gold, and the ever popular “Chariots of Fire” by Vangelis. Music from the play “The Traveler without Luggage” by Darius Milhaud will delight listeners.
The Rainier Trio is made up of Kevin and Bryan Matheson, on violin and viola, respectively, and the skilled and lovely Brenda Wittwer at the piano. The Matheson brothers most recently performed at The Prizery as part of the ensemble for Gian-Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors” and this past summer playing in the Rogers and Hammerstein production of “Cinderella” as part of Summer Theatre Celebration 2012.
The fourth star of the evening will be The Prizery’s new nine-foot Steinway Concert Grande, made possible by generous gifts from the community and the tireless efforts of the Steinway Committee and the staff at Benchmark Bank in Riverdale. Tickets for A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES can be purchased from The Prizery box-office or by calling The Prizery at 434-572-8339 or purchase tickets online at http://www.prizery.com
