Calvo photography in Prizery gallery

The Prizery’s Robert F. Cage Art Gallery will be filled through the holiday season with the fine-art photography of South Boston’s Michael Calvo. “Journey of Wonder” opens this week for the Third Thursday evening event, with the artist’s reception on Saturday 6-8 p.m. Both events are free. The exhibit is also open during regular Prizery hours, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays.

Wal-Mart helps students see Prizery performances

Wal-Mart has donated $1,000 to The Prizery in South Boston through the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. The funds help underwrite sending Halifax County Public Schools students to top-notch professional daytime performances at The Prizery art center. Most recently, students saw “As You Like It” performed by the Aquila Shakespeare Theatre out of New York City.

Prizery gets trio of recognitions

The Prizery community arts center in South Boston has gotten a trio of honors recently: inclusion in the prestigious Jazz Presenters Network, plus citations and photographs in both a widely-distributed booklet from the U.S. National Park Service and in the Main Street Monitor.
