Halifax County Little Theatre and The Prizery will join forces this fall to bring back a wonderful holiday tradition to the local stage: Alan Menken’s musical version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Performances will run from Nov. 27 - Dec. 13. Auditions will be held Monday Aug. 17 and Monday Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Chastain Theatre at The Prizery. Director Chris Jones is looking for actors and singers of all ages to fill this large cast of characters. Limited roles are available for children age 8 and older, including Tiny Tim, angels, and ensemble parts, and many roles are available for older children, teens and adults. Those auditioning are asked to be prepared to sing 16 bars of a song of their choice. Rehearsals begin Aug. 31.

In HCLT’s upcoming production of the musical 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Ms. Mona Lisa Peretti, played by Alison Streeter, tries to keep the Spelling Bee going, but it’s hard to keep these contestants focused and calm. Here Marcy Park, played by Sharron Garrett, psyches the other girls out with her karate moves. Logainne SchwartzandGruneiere, played by Kara Stone, is feeling quite anxious, while young Olive Ostrovsky, played by Lauren Cole, doesn’t seem to be bothered a bit.

Middle school anxieties are infamous … raging hormones, trying to fit in, breaking away from parent controls to name a few. While those years are notoriously full of struggles and sometimes painful self-discovery for most adolescents, it’s great fun to remember those years from the safe distance of adulthood. Halifax County Little Theatre’s upcoming production of the Tony Award winning musical 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee touches on many of those classic teenage struggles, and they’re betting audiences will recognize and remember some of the same issues portrayed on stage.

Many people remember the first time they experienced Charlotte’s Web. For some, they read it in school and fell in love.
Diva Carolyn Dunn beautifies Diva Tasha Dyer before pictures for Little Theatre’s BEEHIVE: The 60’s Rock Musical. This Saturday between 8-10 a.m., Little Theatre is sponsoring a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s to benefit the Beehive production. The Beehive cast will be helping at the breakfast this weekend, so you can meet the divas, dancers, and do-wops in person. The show runs April 25 to May 4 at The Prizery.

Halifax County Little Theatre will sponsor a Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s this Saturday, April 5, from 8-10 a.m. The proceeds from the breakfast will help with expenses for their upcoming musical, BEEHIVE: The 60’s Rock Musical, which opens April 25.
