Caren McGhee Cole, Ryan Scott DeJarnette wed
SoVaNow.com / November 30, 2011Caren McGhee Cole and Ryan Scott DeJarnette of South Boston were married Saturday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church in South Boston. The Rev. Randy Holmes performed the double-ring ceremony.
Organist Ben Woosley provided traditional wedding selections for the ceremony. Sarah Beale Chandler served as acolyte and soloist.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Cole III of Halifax. She is the granddaughter of Carolyn H. McGhee of Halifax and the late William A. G. McGhee Sr., and the late Mr. and Mrs. John L. Cole Jr.
The groom is the son of Robert DeJarnette of Nathalie and Terrie Conner of Halifax. He is the grandson of Doris Jones of Halifax and the late Hurley Jones, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard DeJarnette.
The bride, escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, wore a strapless gown of ivory and silver Luxe taffeta with a sweetheart neckline. Her gown was embellished with beaded, cascading lace that met a ruched draping and was finished with a scalloped chapel-length train. Her hairpiece, borrowed from her matron of honor, Courtnie Sparks, was a finger-tip veil with rhinestone edging. She carried a Martha Stewart style bouquet of hydrangeas, roses and colorful autumn flowers.
Courtnie Sparks of Lynchburg served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Meagan Lee of Virgilina, Liza Holmes of South Boston, Monica Mears of Chincoteague Island, Kathryn Catherwood of Charlottesville, Christina Sursa of Falls Church, Ann Franklin of South Boston, and Kelly Henderson of South Boston.
The attendants wore one shoulder, knee-length cranberry colored dresses of satin with ruched bodice. They also carried colorful Martha Stewart style bouquets of mixed autumn flowers.
The groom wore a chocolate brown tuxedo with a latte colored vest and tie
The groom’s brother, Robbie DeJarnette of Madison Heights, served as best man. Groomsmen were Shannon Wright, cousin of the groom, of Nathalie; Jay Cole, brother of the bride of South Boston; Timmy Perry of South Boston; Johnny Wilson of Scottsburg; Tommy Elliott of Virgilina; Kenneth Clark of South Boston; and Jay Henderson of South Boston. They wore chocolate brown tuxedos with pear colored vests and ties.
Jaden DeJarnette, daughter of the groom served as flower girl. She wore an ivory sleeveless princess-style satin and tulle dress with rhinestone accents on the bodice. John Cole V, nephew of the bride, served as ring bearer. He wore an ivory, two piece suit with cranberry colored tie.
Erica Conner; Lexie DeJarnette, daughter of the groom; Emily New; Amanda Walker; and Jennifer Whitlow served as guest book and program attendants. Martha Chandler and Kathy Debiec served as mistresses of ceremony, and Gabby Bridgers served as wedding director.
Following the ceremony, an outdoor reception was held at The Barn at Cloverdale Farm in Sutherlin.
Showers and Parties
An engagement party for Caren Cole and Ryan DeJarnette, hosted by Kenneth Clark, Jay Cole, Ann Franklin, Bradley Griffin, Liza Holmes, Meagan Lee, Emily New, Jennifer Whitlow, and Shannon Wright was held Nov. 20, 2010, at the Paradise Ruritan Club in Alton.
A bridal shower and brunch was given by Kathryn Catherwood, Monica Mears, and Christina Sursa July 23, at Cooper’s Landing in Clarksville.
A Hors d’ oeuvre party honoring the couple was given July 23, at the Sportsmen’s Club in Halifax. The party was hosted by Jimmy and Peggy Crews, Don and Lu Barnes, Archie and Bobbi Bohanon, Andrew and Sylvia Bohanon, Tom and Sharon Kluge, Annette Ferguson, Barry and Connie Slagle, Doug and JoAnn Newland, Jacky and Courtnie Thomasson, and Jim and Kathy Debiec.
Great-aunts of the bride, Rita Nelson and Charlotte Coleman, hosted a bridal brunch and shower at Four Oaks Restaurant Saturday, Aug. 6.
The United Methodist Women and the Fellowship Committee of Main Street United Methodist Church hosted a wedding luncheon Sunday, Aug. 7 following the worship service.
Martha Chandler, Kathy Debiec, and Beth Layne hosted a bridal shower at the home of Martha Chandler Saturday, Sept. 10.
The bridal couple hosted a dinner Friday, Oct. 14 at The Oak Tree Tavern at Virginia International Raceway. They presented gifts to their assistants at this time.
