Sunday, call to worship was “What a Day That Will Be” by the choir at Hitesburg Baptist Church. The Reverend Mike Riley read the announcements and welcomed everyone. Hymn was “Tell Me the Story of Jesus.” Children’s sermon, which was lead by David Riley, was concerning idols. He asked the children “Have you guys ever heard the word idol?.” David stated that people idol statues and other articles. But idoling, which is putting something/someone before God, should not exist in our lives. The children collected loose change from throughout the congregation for the August Loose Change project which will go toward the Tri-County Benefit. Prayer time ended with a prayer from the Deacon of the Week, Andy Loftis. Hymn was “Heaven Came Down.” Choir special was “Blessed Redeemer.” Everyone fellowshipped with one another while Delores Hamlett, pianist/organist, played a couple of verses. The Rev. Riley brought the sermon entitiled “Seven Things About Idols Everybody Needs to Know.” Scripture came from Exodus 32:1-8, 1 John 2:16, 1 Corinthians 10 and Exodus 24:7. Hymn was “Jesus Calls Us.” Visitors at HBC Sunday included Doug Forlines, Joni Crain and a couple of others.
Those visiting Janie Keeton last Tuesday included Charlotte Pennington, Stacey Puryear and baby Maggie, Ashley Puryear and baby Kennedy, Linda Puryear, Donald Wall and David Martin. Saturday, Vicki Overby, Annie Sue Overby and Haley Overby visited Mrs. Keeton and Lady. Haley spent the night with them and also stayed there Sunday. Darrell and Vicki Overby visited them Sunday. Jade Overby stayed the weekend with Mackenzie Daniels and her family. They all enjoyed camping at Gravel Hill while together. Gladys Newcomb visited Janie and Lady Sunday afternoon.
Last Tuesday, Sam Parham and Norma Elliott visited Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Elliott. Friday, Sam and Norma went to Danville Community College to enjoy hearing some music. Sunday, Mrs. Elliott attended the child dedication service for Parker Layne Arrington at Averett Baptist Church. Others attending the dedication included Mr. and Mrs. Dean Elliott, Layne and Laura Arrington, Jerry and Jackie Arrington, Brad and Brooke Arrington, Billie James, Steve James, Erica Elliott, Christian Willis and Taylor Elliott.
Last Wednesday, Lloyd Allen, Sarah Allen and Elizabeth Gielow
visited Ruth Overby. Friday, Mitzie Waller and Ruth went shopping together. The two ladies also went to Danville Community College to hear some bluegrass music.
Last Wednesday, Abraham Tillotson went to the revival at Jefferies Baptist Church in Jefferies VA. He, as well as Jink Overbey, David Bryant, James Hart and Jimmy Wilson, were there to provide the singing. Friday, Mr. Tillotson visited Donald and Evone Jacobs.
Friday evening, Jacob Overbey, Meaghan Overbey, Macy, Carissa Overby and Haley Overby visited Annie Sue Overby.
Mr. and Mrs. Dean and Ann Elliott, Erica Elliott, along with Christian Willis, attended the wedding of Lauren Anderson and Brad Davis Saturday at Dan River Church and the reception at Berry Hill Resort.
Sunday, Delores Hamlett, Rocki Hamlett, Beth and a couple of their friends enjoyed lunch with Ruth Overby at her home. Also Sunday, Annie Sue Overby and Charlie Overby visited Beth.
Visiting Ronnie and Deborah Pulliam Sunday and Monday were Helen Hayes, the Reverend and Mrs. Mike Riley, Patricia Talley, Dean and Ann Elliott, Taylor Elliott, and Norma Elliott.
Remember the sick, lost and those who have lost loved ones including the Bobby Whitlow family. Remember our great country and the problems in it, the lost/unchurched, HBC, hospital and nursing home patients, the lost, people serving on mission, High View Baptist Church Congregation and Pastor and each other as well. Also, remember our troops including Mariah Johns Adkins, Timmy Wilkinson, Brian Seate, Forest Clark, Jonathan Fisher and Dan Elliott, BIRTHDAYS: Lori Wade, Dereck Fisher, Mary Dean, Doyle Allen, George Daniel, ANNIVERSARIES: Rev. and Mrs. Mike Riley.
