SoVaNow.com / December 04, 2013Sunday, call to worship was “Fill My Cup Lord”, which was sang twice, by the choir at Hitesburg Baptist Church. The Reverend Mike Riley read the announcements and welcomed everyone. Josh and Charity Milam lit the first Advent Candle, the invitation candle. Mr. and Mrs. Milam also read a short skit concerning the birth of Jesus Christ and that certain candle. Hymn was “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus”. Children’s sermon, which was lead by David Riley, was concerning races. He asked the children “Have you all ever seen a race for people and/or cars?”. Mr. Riley told them that we, as Christians, are all running a race for Jesus. The children collected loose change from throughout the congregation for the December Loose Change project which will go toward the Lottie Moon offering. Prayer time ended with a prayer from Don Loftis. The Deacon of the Week is Carl Daniel. Hymn was “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”. Choir special was “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day”. Everyone fellowshipped with one another while Deborah Pulliam, pianist/organist, played a couple of verses. The Rev. Riley brought the sermon entitiled “Born to Run”. Scripture came from Hebrews 12:1-2, 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 2 John 8, John 17:4-5 and Hebrews 11:36-38. Hymn was “Jesus is Calling”. Visitors at HBC Sunday included Tyrus Hayden and Robert Sheppard.
Last Wednesday evening, Abraham Tillotson went to the community Thanksgiving service at Aarons Creek Baptist Church, which was for North Fork, Nelson, Hitesburg and Aarons Creek. Thanksgiving, he enjoyed dinner with the Puckett family in Scottsburg.
Last Wednesday evening, Ruth Overby went to the community Thanksgiving service at Aarons Creek Baptist church. Thursday, she went to the Waller family Thanksgiving lunch in Volens. That evening, Ruth went to Bobby and Connie Cranfill’s for a Thanksgiving family get-together. At other times throughout the week, Ruth enjoyed spending time with and a Thanksgiving get together with other family members. Mrs. Overby attended Jerry and Barbara Burton’s stew in Roxboro Saturday.
For Thanksgiving dinner, Mr. and Mrs. George Daniel welcomed Eddie and Tammy Daniel, Karen, Kayden, Kholie, Carl and Phyllis Daniel, Caleb Daniel, Lauren Daniel, Barbara K. Daniel, Norma Elliott and Diane Daniel into their home.
Thursday, Lynn and Annie Sue Overby had a Thanksgiving lunch at their home. Those enjoying the meal with them included Darrell and Vicki Overby, Carissa Overby, Jade Overby, Haley Overby, Charlie Overby and Wade Overby. That evening, Steve and Tammy Fisher had a dinner at their home. Tammy’s mother, Reva, Tammy’s sister, Penny, Dereck, Dylan, Dakota, Barbara Fisher, Vicki, Carissa, Jade, Haley, and Annie Sue enjoyed the meal and fellowship with them. Tammy, Carissa, Jade and Dereck went shopping Thursday evening. They had breakfast at Cracker Barrell Friday morning. Haley spent the night with Steve and Dylan Thursday. Carissa, Jade and Haley spent the night with their grandma, Barbara, Friday.
Thursday, Joe Councill, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Overbey and Beth enjoyed Thanksgiving supper together. They also enjoyed visiting with each other that evening. Mr. Councill visited with the family until he left Saturday.
Thursday, Gwen Driskill, Reid Driskill, Jackson Driskill, James and Lori Wade, Nathan Wade, Evelyn Wade, Greg and Whitney Cranfill, Aubrey Cranfill and Erin Cranfill gathered with Bobby and Connie Cranfill at their home for Thanksgiving. The Wade family also visited some other family members in Halifax.
Thanksgiving lunch guests of Ronnie and Deborah Pulliam were Scot and Robin McAlexander, Ellen McAlexander, Graham McAlexander, Dennis and Kelly Ballance, Grayson Ballance, and Harper Ballance. Saturday dinner guests of the Pulliams were Ray Pulliam, Don Toms, Lewis and Regina Snyder, Mandy Snyder, Adam Snyder, Jason and Amy Marshall, Hollen Marshall, Elliott.Marshall, Dean Elliott, Taylor Elliott, Carl and Phyllis Daniel and Caleb Daniel.
Norma Elliott went to visit Mildred Hite Thursday. Norma also enjoyed lunch with Mr. and Mrs. Dean Elliott that afternoon and supper with Mr. and Mrs. George Daniel that evening. Sunday, Norma had lunch with Dean and Ann.
Thursday, Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt Stone had a family Thanksgiving dinner at their home. Those enjoying it with them were Tim and Paula Stone, Lindsey Stone, Sidney Stone, Sandra Weary, Trevor Weary and Josh Stone. Judy and Sandra spent the weekend in Smithfield, NC. Saturday, the two ladies enjoyed doing some shopping and dining out. Sunday, they attended the Christmas show at Rudy Theater.
Friday, Phyllis Daniel, Ann Elliott and Laura Arrington went shopping in Raleigh, North Carolina. Saturday, Dean Elliott and Taylor Elliott ate supper with Ronnie and Deborah Pulliam. Sunday, Dean, Ann and Taylor hosted the Thompson Thanksgiving get together. Those attending were Christian and Erica Willis, Layne and Laura Arrington, Parker Arrington, Norma Elliott, Ruby Thompson, Jesse and Tammy Roberts, Andrew Roberts, Sarah Grace Roberts, Elaine Hunt, Sandra Cash, Syndey Cash, Sam Cash, Wayne and Vickey Thompson, Cecil and Hazel Thompson, Joey Thompson, Brandy Thompson, Alec and Cohen Thompson, Bonita Baylous, Harold and Sally Thompson, Justin Thompson, Mason Brody Thompson, Samantha Garner, Garland and Brittney Comer, Paisley Comer, Tinley Comer and Lucille Thompson. Everyone enjoyed the food which was brought by everyone.
Saturday, David Martin and his girlfriend, Chelsey Carter, visited Janie Keeton. Sunday, Annie Sue Overby, Vicki Overby, Jade Overby, Haley Overby, Charlotte Pennington, Nathan Pennington, Nathan’s girlfriend, Ashley, Lois Martin, David, Chelsey, Theresa Wray, Harley Wray, Hunter Edwards, Johnny Noblin, Ashley Noblin, Emma Grace Noblin, Big Hurley Noblin, Michael Moore, Tyler Moore, Cherstal, Sharon Adams, Linda Puryear, Donald Wall, Steven Puryear, Stacey Puryear, Lylie Mae Puryear, Elizabeth Lane Puryear, Mikey Puryear, Kennedy Puryear, Helen Umik and Emel Umik gathered at Mrs. Keeton’s home for a Thanksgiving lunch. Monday, Lois and Chelsey visited Mrs. Keeton. Also Monday, Annie Sue visited Beth.
Sunday, the HBC brotherhood and WMU met at HBC for the Christmas meeting. Good refreshments and fellowship were enjoyed by all.
Remember the sick, lost and/or unchurched and those who have lost loved ones.
