SoVaNow.com / January 10, 2013Sunday, call to worship was “Praise the Lord” by the choir at Hitesburg Baptist Church. The Reverend Mike Riley read the announcements and welcomed everyone. Hymn was “Praise Him, Praise Him”. Children’s sermon, which was lead by Stephanie Neal, was concerning the phrase “Happy New Year”. The children were asked how many times they had heard that said. An agenda book was used as a visual aide. They were also asked “What is a resolution?”. Different answers were given. Having new goals and doing what God would have us to do was discussed. The children collected loose change from throughout the congregation for the January Loose Change project which will go toward the HBC building fund. Prayer time ended with a prayer from the Deacon of the Week, Ronnie Pulliam. Hymn was “Since Jesus Came Into My Heart”. Choir special was “It’s Different Now”. Everyone fellowshipped with one another while Deborah Pulliam, pianist/organist, played a couple of verses. The Rev. Riley brought the sermon entitiled “The Freedom of Forgiveness”. Scripture came from Psalms 32:1-11, Isaiah 55:7, Romans 2:1-2 and 1 Peter 4:17. Hymn was “Jesus Paid It All”. Visitors at HBC Sunday included Gerald and Ruth Hudson and a couple of others.
Those visiting Decatur Overbey throughout the week included Mr. and Mrs. Robert Overbey, Margie Nelson, Jim Forrester, Curtis Hudson and several others. Hollie Mae Crenshaw visited him Saturday.
Leslie Overby visited Ruth Overby several times throughout the week. Ruth attended the New Year’s breakfast at HBC Sunday morning. Also, Ronnie Overbey visited her that day.
Last Wednesday, Annie Sue Overby and Vicki Overby hosted a birthday party for Lynn Overby at his house. Others there helping him celebrate included Wade Overby, Charlie Overby, Darrell Overby, Carissa Overby, Jade Overby and Haley Overby. Carissa, Jade and Haley spent the weekend with Barbara Fisher. Derrick Fisher and Dylan Fisher were also there.
Friday, Abraham Tillotson met up with several of his friends from Virginia beach. They enjoyed a small get-together while together.
Michael and Stephanie Neal, Kensley Neal and Kate Neal enjoyed a get together over the weekend at the home of Cathy Craft in South Hill. Michael, Stephanie, Kensley, and Kate were also lunch guests of Steve and Vicky Wilkins Sunday.
Sunday morning, before church, the New Year’s breakfast was held at HBC. A good number of people gathered to enjoy the food and fellowship. They also talked about their New Year’s resolutions with each other.
Remember the sick, lost and those who have lost loved ones including the Carolyn Fuller family, the Wayne Francisco family and the H.B. Landrum family. Remember our great country and nursing home patients as well. Also, remember our troops including Mariah Johns Adkins, Timmy Wilkinson, Brian Seate, Forest Clark and Dan Elliott, Birthdays: Caleb Daniel, Leslie Price, Layne Arrington, Anniversaries: Johnnie and Julia Rice, Mr. and Mrs. Heiter Griffin.
