SoVaNow.com / June 17, 2013Sunday, call to worship was “Open Your Heart” by the choir at Hitesburg Baptist Church. The Rev. Mike Riley read the announcements and welcomed everyone. He also read a card from the Alton Bowen family thanking everyone for their prayers, food, etc.; a card from Curtis and Phyllis Hudson thanking everyone and a card from Jim & Sharon Kinsey-Forrester thanking everyone for their prayers. The graduates present; including Andy Oliver, Kasey Morris, Carissa Overby, Dylon Oliver, Sharon Kinsey-Forrester and Rocki Hamlett; stood and were applauded. Most of them were given special gifts acknowledging their special event. Gifts were also presented to Ann Elliott, for Taylor Elliott, and Carolyn Overbey, for Meaghan Overbey. Hymn was “I Am Resolved”. Prayer time ended with a prayer from the Deacon of the Week, Jimmy Wilson. Hymn was “Take the Name of Jesus With You”. Choir special was “Farther Along”. Everyone fellowshipped with one another while Deborah Pulliam, pianist/organist, played a couple of verses. The Rev. Riley brought the sermon entitiled “In Order to Abide in Jesus”. Scripture came from John 6:60-69, John 8:31, John 6:21, John 6:25-27, Ephesians 1, John 15:16 and Revelation
2. Hymn was “Just a Closer Walk With Thee”. Visitors at HBC Sunday included Tony & Judy Deal, Brandy Enscore and a couple of others.
Cathy Craft of South Hill recently visited with Michael & Stephanie Neal, Kensley Neal, and Kate Neal. Michael, Stephanie, Kensley, and Kate were dinner guests of Steve and Vicky Wilkins Sunday. Kensley and Kate recently visited with Sam and Pat Fisher, Mildred Seamster, and Sue Terry. Michael and Stephanie attended a retirement dinner for Kitty Matthews, who is a co-worker of Stephanie’s, Saturday at The Lake House restaurant in Clarksville.
Those visiting Ruth Overby throughout the week included Beth Baker, Elizabeth Gielow, Cindy Loftis, Ronnie Overbey, Mr. & Mrs. Heiter Griffin, Delores Hamlett, Rocki Hamlett and Leslie Overby. Sunday, Ruth attended the burial services for Thomas Bailey at HBC cemetery.
Last Sunday, Judy Stone was honored for her birthday with a cookout at the home of Trevor and Sandra Weary. There were many family members and friends there to help her celebrate. Friday; Judy attended a going away party for one of her co-workers, Stacy Zyla, at Stacy’s home in South Boston. Saturday, Lindsey Stone celebrated her birthday with a pool party at Cluster Springs pool. Everyone enjoyed pizza, cake and swimming together. Later, six of her friends spent the night with her for a sleep over.
Last Monday, Abraham Tillotson visited Thomas Bailey. Last Wednesday, Mr. Tillotson visited Donald & Evone Jacobs. Sunday, Abraham went to Mr. Bailey’s funeral at Watkins Cooper Lyon funeral home and the burial at Hitesburg cemetery.
Sam Parham, Norma Elliott, Ruth Overby, Jink Overbey and Abraham Tillotson went to Bushy Fork for a singing which included a variety of music and many different singers Friday evening. There was also an arrangement of different musical instruments played there.
Mr. & Mrs. Dean Elliott; along with Layne & Laura Arrington, Parker Arrington, Erica Elliott and Christian Willis; attended the Smith /Thompson Reunion Saturday at the Smith Farm. Dean and Ann ate supper with Christian and Erica that evening. Sunday evening; Dean and Ann, along with Carl & Phyllis Daniel, went out to eat in South Boston. Tuesday, Mr. & Mrs. Elliott attended the funeral of Frances Thompson in Kennesaw Georgia along with Gladys Thompson and Presley Thompson, of Richmond; Elaine Hunt, and Harold & Sally Thompson.
Sunday; Ronnie & Deborah Pulliam, Beth, the Reverend & Mrs. Mike Riley, Mr. & Mrs. Don Loftis, and several more of Thomas Bailey’s family members and friends went to show their final respects at his funeral service at Watkins Cooper Lyon funeral home in Clarksville and Mr. Bailey’s burial service at Hitesburg cemetery.
Tuesday; a pretty good number of people; including some from Hitesburg, the Aarons Creek community, the North Fork community and South Boston; were at HBC for the monthly Senior Citizens’ gathering. Everyone there enjoyed the good food and fellowship with one another.
Remember the sick, lost and those who have lost loved ones including the James Thomas Bailey family, the Frances Thompson family, the Jim Burton family, the Bill Moore family and the Jean Brown family. Remember our great country and the problems in it, the lost/unchurched, HBC, people affected by tornadoes in Oklahoma, hospital and nursing home patients, the lost; our seniors graduating from high school/college this year including Sharon Kinsey, Meaghan Overbey, Dylon Oliver, Carissa Overby, Maggie Merck, Kasey Morris, Taylor Elliott, Jamie Wilson, Hannah Riley, Andy Oliver, Ellen McAlexander and Rocki Hamlett; people serving on mission, and each other as well. Also, remember our troops including Mariah Johns Adkins, Timmy Wilkinson, Brian Seate, Forest Clark and Dan Elliott.
