Lakisha Lanai Barbour and James Wade Kidd Jr. were united in marriage Saturday, Sept. 15, at Republican Grove Baptist Church, Nathalie. Rev. Dr. Lorenza S. Otey officiated. An outdoor reception followed at Altavista Vineyards, Hurt.

The bride is the daughter of Malcolm and Mattie Barbour of Nathalie. She is the granddaughter of Vastine Tune and the late James Tune Sr. and the late Otis Sr. and Ella Barbour, all of Nathalie. The groom is the son of James Kidd Sr. and the late Barbara Kidd of Penhook. He is the grandson of the late Dan and Mary Cobbs and the late Willie Ben and Bertha Kidd, all of Penhook.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a taffeta gown with one-shoulder detail and carried a hand-tied bouquet composed of purple and white calla lilies.

Serving as maid of honor was Johniqua Brigham, best friend of the bride, of South Boston. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Barbour, cousin of the bride, of Nathalie, Sancia Burrell, cousin of the bride, of Manassas, and LaChelle Brooks, friend of the bride, of Philadelphia. Flower girl was Taylor Foster, goddaughter of the bride, of South Boston.

Serving as best man was Patrick Thompson, best friend of the groom, of Lynchburg. Groomsmen were Jermaine Kidd, nephew of the groom, of Martinsville, Bryson Elam, nephew of the groom, of Petersburg, and Napoleon Poindexter, cousin of the groom, of Martinsville. Junior groomsman was Lee Barbour, godson of the bride, of Lynchburg. Ushers were Justin Kidd of Fieldale and Roddrick Barbour and Travis Barbour, both of Nathalie.

Lakisha is a graduate of Halifax County High School and received her B.A. in Sociology and M.Ed. in Community Counseling from Lynchburg College. She is currently completing a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership at Lynchburg College and will graduate in May. She is employed by Pittsylvania County Schools. James is a graduate of Chatham High School and received his Networking/IT Certification from ECPI and is employed by Shentel Cable.

The couple resides in Lynchburg and plan to honeymoon this summer.
