Roast Pork Dinner — Roast pork, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, iced tea, coffee and dessert) Thursday, June 30, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Located at Clarksville VFW Post 8163, Highway 15N. Tickets are $7.00 at door.

The Annual Big Apple Archery Tournament - July 2 and 3, registration on Saturday, from 8:00 p.m. until 12:00 p.m. and Sunday 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. (Causal). Sunday Awards Ceremony at 4:00 p.m. sharp. The weekend events include on Friday, there will be a spaghetti supper, on Saturday, there will be a full buffet breakfast, lunch and supper; And on Sunday there will be a full buffet breakfast, lunch. The Buggs Island Archery Shop - bows, archery supplies and accessories. I’m sure Noel and Marian will have a surprise up their sleeve. Also, Wistaria Creations will have a Happy Basket, door prizes, Flyn Coon Shoot, Cornhole. Camping/w/Water/Electric - hot showers, good food, fun for all. Camping Donations are welcome.

Fishing Trip — The Mecklenburg County and Vicinity Ushers will be sponsoring a Fishing Trip to Virginia Beach. We are cordially, inviting you to join us on one of Rudee’s Inlet finest charters, for a day of fun and the best fishing on the East Coast. The cost for the trip is $100.00 and a deposit of $40.00 is due by July 10, or before. There will be three bus pick up sites: South Boston, Va; Clarksville and South Hill. First Annual Little Miss Lake Country Pageant — To be held on August 13, at Clarksville Fine Arts Canter. Open to ages 0-18 years. A day of beauty, fun, food and shopping! Registration deadline is August 8th. We will also be having an Open Air Bizarre, If you are interested in a booth space to sell hand crafted items, hurry and reserve your now! Quilt Guild Meeting — On July 1, the Sew Happy Quilt Guild will meet at the House of Prayer on Rte. 58, just outside of Clarksville. The meeting begins at 10:00 a.m. All interested ladies are invited. Call 434-374-2368 for more information.

Mecklenburg County Lifesaving and Rescue Squad — will be having their annual Cutest Baby Contest during Lakefest. All entries must be received prior to July 8th to be entered. No late entries will be accepted. All entries must have on a separate form- the baby's name, age, and the name and telephone number of the person who is entering them. There are to be no names on the photos and they will not be returned. All photos must be 4x6 to be accepted. They may be mailed to MCLRS P.O. Box 1539 Clarksville, VA 23927. 50th Annual Bullock Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser — Will be held on July 1, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. BBQ Pork & Stew Plates $7; Quart of Stew $6; Pint of BBQ Pork $6.00. 2011 Youth Crusade — Has your heart been broken by depression, feelings of hurt, hopelessness, fear and being unloved? Have you even considered suicide as an option? Jesus asks the question...Would you be made whole? If this is you or someone you know, come as you are to the 2011 Youth Crusade Friday and Saturday July 8th and 9th. YMCA Youth Football — The Mecklenburg County YMCA is sponsoring Youth Football for ages 6-8 and 9-11. Registrations are now being accepted and are available at the Chase City and Clarksville branches. Copy of your child’s birth certificate is required at time of registration. NAACP Meetings — The Mecklenburg County NAACP WILL NOT meet during the months of July and August.
Karate Classes — The Mecklenburg County YMCA will be holding Karate Classes at the Clarksville location on Noblin Farm Road starting July 5. Karate is a sport for everyone. It helps develop self-control and self-respect, coordination and confidence. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. For ages 4 and up. Alzheimer’s Support Group Meets — To help those who care for Alzheimer’s patients, Hazelwood House Alzheimer’s Support group will meet on Tuesday, July 5 from 5:00 — 6:00 p.m. at 1107 West Danville Street, South Hill, Virginia. The purpose of this meeting is for ALL caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s or Dementia to come together to discuss issues that you are facing as you care for your loved ones. AARP Twin Lakes Chapter #4014 — will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at Brian's Steak House in South Hill. The speaker will be Ms. Melinda Elliott from United Methodist Family Service. Food donations will be collected for the needy, and given to the Bread Box. AARP members are encouraged to attend; visitors are welcomed. Please support your chapter by staying for lunch; the cost of lunch is $10.00.

Introduction to Computers Class — If you'd like to learn how to search the Internet, email family and friends, and understand the basics about your computer----this is the class for you! This is a very interesting class, which is presented in a relaxed and "learn at your own pace" atmosphere. This introductory course will be held at the Lake Country Distance Education Center, located in the Clarksville Enrichment Complex, Noblin Farm Rd, Clarksville. The dates and time for the class: Tuesday, July 26, 1-4PM, and Wednesday, July 27, 1-3PM. Fee: $30 --- due on the first day of class. Summer Reading — Registration is underway for the 2011 Summer Reading Program at the Clarksville Area Public Library. The theme this year is One World, Many Stories! Listen to the tales and make crafts from Russia, China, Egypt and Mexico! Programs will be held on Thursdays, July 7 through July 28, 11:00 until noon. Children must be 7-12 years old. New Members always welcome. The Last Train in Clarksville Model R/R Club is building a HO Display of Clarksville in 1950. Benefit Dance — American Legion Post 43 in Chase City located at 231 S. Main Street in Chase City will be having a Benefit Dance every Friday night, at 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. with the band Country After Dark, bring your friends! $5 Admission per person.

Ebony Old Fashion — The 39th Ebony Old Fashion Day will be held on Saturday, July 9, at the Ebony Fire House Grounds in Ebony, Virginia. The gigantic auction begins at 9:00 a.m. Food will be sold in the Kountry Kitchen and activities will be provided for the kids. Bring your lawn chair and experience a fun family day in Ebony. No Boat ride — The Sgt Earle Davis Gregory American Legion Post #45 announces that there will NOT be a monthly veteran boat ride in June. A social for female veterans will be held instead. Monthly veteran boat rides will restart on Thursday July 28, and will be on the last Thursday of the month until further notice. This change allows us to accommodate wheel chair bound veterans from RICHMOND VA MEDICAL CENTER. Community Outreach Center Now Open — An outreach center where people can come and receive Certified Confidential Counseling on a Donation Basis. "People are Hurting not only economically but emotionally and spiritually as well. HWI is here to help them get back on their feet, to help them cope with the overwhelming problems many face today through God's Word!" Sessions are held Mondays and Wednesdays by appointment. Girl Scout Recycling Days — Girl Scout Troop 3263 is planning to hold three Recycling Days at the South Hill Farmers Market in 2011 — July 16 and September 17. They will accept such things as used drink pouches, chip bags, cookie wrappers, Cadbury gum packages, Scott packing, Kashi packages, Huggies diaper wrappers, Mat-o-Meal cereal packages, Colgate toothpaste tubes and boxes, cell phones, aluminum cans, empty printer cartridges and cardboard. The Third Annual LaCrosse Car Show — benefiting the Mecklenburg County Cancer Association will be held on August 27 during LaCrosse Fest. The Car show will be held in downtown LaCrosse on Central Street. Registration is 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and awards will be presented around 2:30 p.m. Awards will be given to the top two in each class, plus and award for the furthest miles driven to the event.
