HALIFAX YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE SIGNUPS UNDER WAY
Signups are currently under way for all children ages 5-11 with two age divisions, Mites 6-8 and Pee Week 9-11. Players age is determined by age on Aug. 1, 2012. All games will be played at Mary Bethune Complex on Saturday's and there is a uniform charge due before the first game. For more information, call 575-4230 or 476-3332.

DOG OBEDIENCE CLASS FOR JUNIOR 4-H’ERS BEGIN JULY 19
Halifax County 4-H is offering its first dog obedience class to youth ages 9-13 with socially adjusted dogs at least one year old.  This is an opportunity for 4-H’ers to learn respect and positive reinforcement behavior techniques while handling their canine.  Classes will begin Thursday, July 19 at the VCE Halifax Office auditorium from 6:30-7:30.  There is a small fee for the course. REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE TO MEET JULY 19
 The Halifax Co. Republican Committee will meet Thursday, July 19 at the World of Sports at 6:00 pm. We will have several special guests attending Corey Stuart, candidate for the Lt. Governor of Virginia in 2013, other representatives from the Romney/Allen/Hurt campaigns.

APPRECIATION QUILTER’S WORRKSHOP JULY 21

JOHN M. JORDAN CAMP #581 SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS MEETS JULY 23
The July 23 meeting of the John M. Jordan (Halifax County) Camp #581, Sons of Confederate Veterans Historical Honor Society will be held at The Spare Times Grill, in the World of Sports Complex, for dinner and speaker program commencing at 6:00. Members, perspective members, and the public are invited to hear and see all the uniforms produced by the Richmond Depot during the war.

LOCAL LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM
If you are a resident of a long-term care facility (nursing home or assisted living facility) in the counties of Mecklenburg, Halifax or Brunswick and have a complaint, question, or concern that has not been answered to your satisfaction, there is a resource you can call. The ombudsman at Lake Country Area Agency on Aging, Linda Gage, assists and advocates for residents in these counties. You can reach her at (434)447-7661 or 1-800-252-4464, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The local ombudsman protects and represents the rights of persons in nursing homes and adult care residences or those receiving home and community based long-term care. She acts as a resource for information and counseling for issues regarding institution or home-based options for the elderly as well as general issues and concerns by them or their families. The local long-term care ombudsman also seeks to educate consumers of long-term care facilities and their families about their rights and seeks to empower them to find answers to their concerns.
