SoVaNow.com / December 17, 2013Pastor Norman Talley delivered services at Union Christian Church Sunday; Pat Newton was pianist; special music was by Matt Boswell; special thanks to the choir and hand bell director Lottie Nunn and Pat Newton, our Christmas program directed Beverly Morris, hospitality committee chairperson Linda Tuck and Iris Murray for all their hard work for the program and all others who participated; thanks to members of YUM who delivered the fruit baskets for the Sunday school and poinsettias for the women’s fellowship to the shut-ins of the church.
Our special prayers for the families of Donald Jones, Gus Vernon and Aubrey Duffer.
The wreath hanging ceremony was at noon Saturday beginning at Union Christian Church and Aaron’s Creek Baptist Church, then the group attended their cemetery. Ralph Murray, Virgilina Mayor, gave the welcome; opening prayer by Mark W. Nunn; remarks were by Mark W. Nunn, reading of Veterans names by Ralph Murray, Wayne Bowen, Lottie Nunn, Fannie Mae Tuck and Lawrence Nunn; Taps by American Legion Post 8 Bruce Satterfield; benediction by Pastor Norman Talley. All veterans graves had a wreath placed on them.
Virgilina Womans Club members visited the shut-ins and members and the husband of Mrs. Wayne Morris with Christmas caroling and gift bags. They were Hannah Hite, Barbara Murray, Mr. Morris and wife Letty. Those caroling were Mary Elizabeth Elliott, Mrs. William Wilkins, Mary Helen Gravitt, Lottie Nunn, Joan Brewer, Sally Brewer, Mrs. Worth Hudson, Mrs. Lindy Tuck, Sandra Rister, Gayle Averette, Betty Seate and little Emma Elliott.
Sunday dinner guests of Fannie Mae Tuck were Mr. and Mrs. Lindy Tuck, Pam Tuck, Mrs. Michael Conner and Maci.
Mr. and Mrs. Billy Murray, Jimmy Newton and Jason Murray visited Morine Rice recently.
Mrs. Catherine Smith attended her Sunday school Christmas party Friday. She visited Mr. and Mrs. Tom Conner and they visited their home church at Providence. Robert Harris Smith visited Mrs. Smith Saturday and Sunday and Kathy Smith, Mrs. John Henry Smith and Georgia Anderson visited her on Tuesday.
Visitors of Mrs. Mary L. Murray were Fannie Mae Tuck, Norma Elliott, Mrs. Wayne Loftis, Willow Oaks Church Christmas caroling, Gene Murray, Mrs. Barbara Loftis, Rhonda Loftis, Mrs. Wayne Bowen.
Fannie Mae Tuck visited Mr. and Mrs. John Fletcher, Mrs. Louise Rice, Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Morris, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Morris.
Mrs. Mason Pulliam visited Mr. and Mrs. Casey Tuck, Amber and Dustin.
Mrs. Mike Glasscock, Mrs. Roger Chandler, Mr. and Mrs. Casey Tuck and Dustin, Mrs. Mason Pulliam and John Pulliam visited Mr. and Mrs. John Fletcher.
Visiting Hannah Hite were Betty Jean Tuck, Winnie Blanks, Fannie Mae Tuck, Mrs. Dave Jaloway, Billy Murray, Terri Murray, Mrs. Wallace Nunn, Mr. and Mrs. Tony McGregor, Mrs. Mason Pulliam.
