Rawls to speak to Historical Society

The Halifax County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting, Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. at the Prizery in South Boston. This will be a dinner meeting with Waite Rawls as the speaker for the evening. Rawls is executive director of the Museum of the Confederacy. The public is invited to attend. Tickets may be purchased by calling Barbara Bass (753-2137), Ginger Gentry (753-2439), Flora Osborne (575-5059), Douglas Powell (476-2483) or stop by Electric Service in South Boston. The cost for the dinner is $13 and tickets need to be purchased by Monday, Sept. 14.

HCLT announces upcoming season

Days are getting shorter, nights are getting cooler, and the children are back in school. As Mother Nature changes her seasons, so does Halifax County Little Theatre. Their new season, “Forget Your Troubles, Come On Get Happy,” features a trio of productions designed to bring a smile to audiences of all ages.

Morris earns PPA honors

Drew Morris of Virgilina, has earned a Silver Level Photographer of the Year Award from Professional Photographers of America (PPA). He will be honored at PPA’s annual convention, Imaging USA, in January in Nashville, Tenn.

Wagstaff painting donated to museum

A painting by local artist Penick Wagstaff was willed to the South Boston/Halifax County Museum by Jean Sizemore. Her children, Macon Sizemore and Sally Muller made the presentation to the museum recently.

Shelton to exhibit in Caswell County

Local award winning artist Karen Shelton will host an exhibit at the Caswell County Civic Center in Yanceyville, N.C. in November and December. She will celebrate the opening of her exhibit which begins on Nov. 14 and remains on view through Dec. 17, with a reception on Sunday, Nov. 15 from 2-4 p.m. Her exhibit will include extraordinary watercolors and giclees for which she has received many awards.

HCHS Class of 1969 extends deadline for reunion registration

The Reunion Committee, comprised of Patricia Bradshaw, Betty Caldwell, Gail Epps, Carol Gravitt, Cynthia Haugh, Pam Jones, Phyllis Mathews and Lawson Osborne, met and decided to extend the deadline for reservations for attendance at the reunion to Aug. 21. Many classmates have yet to be located or contacted. If you know Michael Farmer, William Newcomb, Thomas Weaver, Michael Crews, David Exum, Karen Roller, Teresa Martin, Wanda Tribble, or Mike Brame, please have them contact any member of the reunion committee. Other class members have been notified by email, but we have yet to receive a response. The committee wants to see as many classmates as possible. So, if you graduated from Halifax County High School in 1969 and remember when:
