Adams touts education’s role at Credit Union event

Born in the then-city of South Boston — “a city girl with country roots” (her grandparents lived in Alton) — Dr. Betty Adams charmed members of the Halifax County Community Federal Credit Union as she talked about her leadership at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC).

Bi-state commission aims to avoid ‘water wars’

The Roanoke River Basin Bi-State Commission at its inaugural meeting put its staff to work developing a framework for addressing issues of water allocation and withdrawals from the basin. Several members called the issue urgent, noting that public hearings are underway on a request from the Kerr Lake Regional Water System. Following initial work by staff, an ad hoc committee will outline a protocol that could become the basis of a bi-state compact.

Vandals eyed in incident

Anthony Askew has reported that someone vandalized a house he owns at 1030 Boyds Ferry, South Boston, sometime between Sunday, March 22 and Monday, March 23.. Damage was done to exterior walls, doors and windows. Sgt. S.M. Bowen of the Halifax Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
