Authorities warn of latest phone scam

The Halifax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office has issued a fraud warning concerning phone calls being made to citizens requesting information. Recently, a number of phone calls have been received in this area in which the caller identifies himself as a bank employee. The caller requests to speak to a specific individual and asks for the last four digits of that person’s social security number.

Vandals target mail boxes in Virgilina

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Department is investigating reports of several mailboxes having been vandalized in the Virgilina area last Wednesday night. All appeared to have been struck with some type of blunt object like a baseball bat. The damaged mailboxes were all located along Buckshoal Road, Hitesburg Church Road, Hudson Road and Aaron’s Creek Road. Deputy Jeff Burton is the investigating officer.
