Both the HCHS varsity softball and baseball teams prevailed in regional play Thursday at home. Both squads are now one win away from the Class 5A state tournament.

Crystal Hill man injured on bush hog

Lowell “Jr.” Fallen of 3242 Newbill School Road, Crystal Hill, was injured late Monday evening as he was bush-hogging his field near the edge of the highway. According to reports, Fallen was thrown from the tractor, right at the highway ditchline, and partially run over by the bush-hog.

State Senator Robert Hurt of Pittsylvania County handily beat six rivals for the Republican Fifth District congressional nomination in light primary voting yesterday.
