Farmville man arrested after high-speed chase

A Farmville man is under arrest after slamming his vehicle into three police cruisers during a lengthy, high-speed chase Friday night in Halifax County.

Crowder named HCMS principal

The Halifax County School Board yesterday named Beverly T. Crowder as the new principal of Halifax County Middle School. The Board affirmed the recommendation of School Superitnendent Paul D. Stapleton in naming Crowder to the post. Stapleton stated that “Mrs. Crowder was the unanimous choice of the interview panel as she has the professional qualities and experience to be as successful at our middle school as she has been as the principal of Cluster Springs Elementary and at the new South Boston Elementary School.”

Halifax teams dominate in Virginia-Carolina Eco-meet

The 20th Annual Ecology Meet was held at the John H. Kerr Reservoir in Boydton, Virginia on Wednesday April 22. Six teams from schools in southern Virginia and northern North Carolina competed in eight events including: wildlife, aquatics, forestry, interpretation, endangered species, herpetology, soils and hydrology. The day-long event was co-sponsored by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, VA Department of Forestry, VA Cooperative Extension Service, VA Department of Conservation and Recreation, North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service, and Soil and Water Conservation Districts from Virginia and North Carolina.
