The accused killer of a 3-year-old Halifax boy entered an Alford plea on Friday to a second degree murder charge, avoiding the possibility that she could receive life in prison for the death of her step-grandchild, Alonzo “A.J.” Roane.

Thefts, break-ins abound in county

Thefts and break-ins continue to keep law enforcement officers busy all across the county. Investigator M. A. Sunday armed robbery in South Boston under investigation

South Boston police are investigating an armed robbery Sunday evening at the Jiffy Food Store on John Randolph Boulevard. According to the police report filed by Officer J.C. Berry, two black males entered the store at 9:54 p.m. One was armed with a handgun. The pair demanded money from the cashier. The two suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
