Police investigate high school theft

The South Boston Police Department is investigating the theft of several items taken from the locker room in the basement of Halifax County High School.

Jobless benefits extended

The U. S. Congress passed an extension of unemployment benefits on Nov. 6, up to an additional 14 weeks beyond the benefits that were previously available. The Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) has begun verifying claimants’ eligibility and reprogramming computer systems to implement the additional benefits. The VEC staff has been working diligently to complete this process.
