Comet baseball, softball advance in regional playoffs

Both the Halifax County High School varsity softball and baseball teams won their respective regional games Thursday. Both squads are one win away from the Class 5A state tournament.

The first training in the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center’s USA/TopSolid Training Institute was held March 30-April 2. Participants from as far away as New York City and San Francisco travelled to Halifax County to take part in the workforce services training facilitated by SVHEC Product Design & Development Technician Kevin Chrystie and TopSolid trainer Jeff Norris of Columbus, Ohio.

Business of Art & Design students take a bite out of the Big Apple

March 3-7 found a group of Digital Art &Design and Product Design &Development high school dual enrollment and community college students taking a bite out of the Big Apple. The purpose of the trip was to study design, art, and creative careers. During their stay in New York City, students met with leaders in the design industry and toured several prestigious design focused institutions. In addition, students were placed into small teams to document the trip using audio, video, and photo techniques. “Everything we did was with an eye towards design,” said Business of Art & Design Coordinator Ben Capozzi.
