Crowds flock to Summerfest

Crowds gathered in Virgilina on Saturday for the 27th Annual Summerfest celebration which is the major fund-raiser for the Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department. It was the perfect day for a parade as 88 year old Lois Epps Jones, the last surviving woman from Person County to serve in World War II, led off the parade which was filled with floats, antique vehicles and horseback riders. And as always, it was the good food and fellowship that made the day such a success.

Cage Gallery dedicated

Thanks to a generous donation, Pulmonary Associates of Southside Virginia was given naming rights to The Prizery art gallery. Instead of bestowing their clinic logo, the group of physicians opted to name the gallery after local artist Bob Cage, a sculptor and painter. Pictured at the dedication reception Thursday night are, from left, Dr. Thomas Truitt, Dr. Tessie Otera-Truitt, Cage, Jenny Witko and Dr. Jim Witko. Ex-HCHS coach faces charges in Henrico

William Macgregor “Mac” Leighton
A Henrico County teacher and football coach with local ties has been arrested on charges of sending text messages from a cell phone in order to solicit pornographic material from an underage female student at the school. William Macgregor “Mac” Leighton, 31, was charged on Tuesday morning by Henrico County police. He was scheduled to appear in Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court yesterday for a preliminary hearing.
