Halifax County school trustees may have set a record for the shortest meeting ever on Tuesday night as they gathered at the Mary Bethune Complex to solicit public comment on the school system's proposed budget for the 2009-2010 coming year.

Snow closes schools, cuts power

Schools will re-open this morning, March 5 two hours late to give bus drivers an opportunity to travel roads that have been completely cleared of the remains of the week-end snow storm. Halifax County finally got the snow that school children have been waiting for all winter — beginning late Sunday, March 1. The area averaged some six inches of wet snow after heavy rains on Sunday afternoon turned to snow, accompanied by high winds. The community was fortunate in that there were few losses of power, unlike in other areas of the state where some residents are still without electricity.

Supes hold special session today

Halifax County supervisors will meet in special session this afternoon, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room of the County Administrator's Office at 134 South Main Street, Halifax.
