Leonard to depart as Halifax IDA director

Matt Leonard, executive director of the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority, will be departing the position Nov. 1 in a decision that the IDA describes as “mutually agreed” upon.

HCPS seeks gifted referrals

Referral packets for participation in the Halifax County Public Schools Gifted Education Program for 2010-11 are currently available at each school. Teachers, other school officials and parents may nominate students. Please contact personnel at your child’s school to initiate the referral process. The deadline for referral of students in grades K-11 is Feb. 5.

Local relief effort begins for Haiti

As local volunteers mobilize to help earthquake victims in Haiti, an 18 wheel trailer began collecting donations Saturday in the parking lot of the South Boston Fire Department’s support building on Wilborn Avenue (near the Neal Agency).
