County plans to cut budget 2 percent

The first draft of the 2011 county budget calls for spending $89,971,290, about two percent less than the current year’s budget. Members of the Board of Supervisors reviewed the staff recommendation during their Friday morning annual retreat. Spending in the current fiscal year, which lasts through June 30, is budgeted at $91,659,098.

Alton man charged in cutting incident

Kenneth Johnson Harris
A 45 year old Alton man has been charged with malicious wounding and possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony. Kenneth Johnson Harris of 1189 Hendrick’s Lane was charged with severely cutting 24 year old Clifton Miller Jr. across the stomach area Saturday, Feb. 13 at 5130 Bill Tuck Highway.

Dr. Frierson, first local radiologist, dies at 90

Halifax County’s first full-time radiologist, Dr. John Hugh Frierson Jr., died Thursday, Feb. 12 at age 90 following a long illness.
