Halifax planners give thumb-down to racetrack restoration

The Halifax County Planning Commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to deny a conditional use permit application for a proposed racetrack in the Republican Grove area.

Position created for E-911 center

Members of the governing bodies of the County and the Towns of South Boston and Halifax on Monday evening discussed at length several issues during their joint session held in the second floor meeting room of the Mary Bethune Complex.

Supes wrap up loose ends

County supervisors on Monday night tied up several loose ends on matters they had been dealing with over the past several months. They first voted 4-2 to abandon a discontinued portion of Route 740 (Christie Road) which has not been used for traffic since 1971.

Pickup truck vandalized

On April 17 at 1:54 p.m., Officer S.M. Comer with the Halifax Police Department responded to a county-owned storage area to the rear of the Mary Bethune Complex to investigate a report of vandalism. According to Comer’s report, one or more suspects entered the area by cutting a hole in a chain link fence. Once inside, the suspect(s) vandalized a 1996 Chevrolet pickup by breaking all the vehicle’s windows and tampering with the gas tank.
