Leonard to depart as Halifax IDA director

Matt Leonard, executive director of the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority, will be departing the position Nov. 1 in a decision that the IDA describes as “mutually agreed” upon.

43 percent of parents return flu shot consent forms

As of Wednesday, only 43 percent of the Halifax County public school parents had returned their child’s consent forms giving their permission for the child to be vaccinated with the H1N1 flu shot. The forms which were sent home by the students last Wednesday were due back into their respective schools on Oct. 9.

HPSA hosts public hearing on $17M grant application

The Halifax Public Service Authority will be holding a public hearing Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the second floor meeting room of the Mary Bethune Complex on its plans to apply for a grant/loan from USDA Rural Development. The Authority will apply for $16,985,000 from the agency to upgrade and expand the Maple Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Third Thursday postponed

The Third Thursday event set for tonight, has been rescheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19. Members of the Third Thursday Committee of South Boston, along with Destination Downtown and the downtown merchants, decided to postpone the event for another month after reviewing the weather forecast which calls for a cold rainy evening.
