4th of July is celebration time in Scottsburg

FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATIONS — South Boston Speedway will have a big fireworks show on Friday night just as they did last year. And on Saturday, the Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department will have a fireworks show at 9:45 p.m. following their annual Fourth of July celebration. For more on Scottsburg’s celebration.
Everything is coming together as members of the Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department invite everyone to celebrate the 4th of July in town. Scottsburg’s 28th annual 4th of July event will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade and continue throughout the day, concluding at night with a dance and fireworks show. Fire department members have been burning the midnight oil to get the grounds, as well as the building, ready for a crowd of thousands this weekend.

Supes raise fees to fund Courthouse upgrades

The Board of Supervisors Tuesday evening hastily approved an amended ordinance that will allow the County to collect higher fees from court cases filed in the Halifax County Courthouse. The funds will be used to renovate and restore the historic old Courthouse, which is suffering from extensive mold and water damage both to its interior and exterior.

$500,000 set aside for sewer plant

On Friday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Interior and Environment Appropriations bill, which included a funding request by Congressman Tom Perriello for $500,000 for upgrading and expanding the Maple Avenue wastewater treatment plant in Halifax County.
