Riverdale relocation controversy rages on

South Boston Town Council members, gathering for a committee work session on Monday evening, spent much of their nearly three hour long meeting discussing a controversial relocation plan for Riverdale merchants. The issue arose after the Town hired Hill Studio to advise the planning commission on the future of three areas of the Town, including the Riverdale strip which serves as the southern gateway to South Boston.

Goode won’t run for old seat in 2010

Former Fifth District Rep. Virgil Goode silenced speculation about his political future by issuing a statement Monday saying he would not run for his old seat next year against Democratic Congressman Tom Perriello.

VDOT starts new round of layoffs

The Virginia Department of Transportation on Monday began giving approximately 600 employees statewide a first notice of layoffs as the agency works to meet a required reduction of staffing to 7,500 full-time employees by July 1, 2010. These layoffs are part of the plan to reduce the agency by 1,000 full-time employees and 450 part-time staffers as VDOT addresses a $2.6 billion revenue shortfall.
