Both the Halifax County High School varsity softball and baseball teams won their respective regional games Thursday. Both squads are one win away from the Class 5A state tournament.

Myers, a second grade teacher at Meadville Elementary, was named the HCPS Teacher of the Year at a staff recognition banquet this week. Another Meadville staff member, Michael Stovall, took the Excellence in Service Award, given to the division's outstanding non-teaching employee.
