Council cancels dance hall permit

South Boston Council members on Monday night voted not extend a special use permit granted in March to Bryon Vaughan allowing him to operate a dance hall at 532 North Main Street. As a result of Council’s vote, Vaughan’s permit will expire on June 9. Earlier, Town Planners voted to recommend extending the permit for another three months until Sept. 9.

New goat market off to strong start

AT MAY 18 GOAT SALE — Halifax County producers sold 122 goats at their first sale held at the Ag Center on Monday, Mayt 18. Participants were pleased with the sale and now look forward to more in the fall.

The newly organized Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association recently held its first sale of goats on Monday, May 18 and according to Agriculture Development Director Linda Faye Wallace, it was a big success with 11 producers participating in the sale which saw 122 goats sold.

Company F to be remembered on D-Day anniversary

The lone local survivor of the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, H. L. “Pete” Myers, will honor the men of Company F. 116th Regimental Combat Brigade on Saturday, June 6 in a 65th anniversary ceremony at the National Guard Armory, located on Hamilton Boulevard beginning at 11 a.m.
