Virginia State Parks moves to buy Falkland Farms

Acquisition of sprawling preserve will turn Staunton River into largest state park

IDA refinances $1 mil debt

Halifax County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) members on Friday morning approved a resolution providing for the issuance and sale award of a public facilities lease revenue refunding note of nearly $1 million. The action will assist Halifax County in refinancing the debt on the Mary Bethune Complex which was borrowed back in 1992 and which will mean a savings for Halifax County of over $200,000 over the next 13 years until the note is paid off in March 2022.

Red Cross chapter honors local volunteers

Every day, but especially during National Volunteer Week, April 19-25, The Halifax-Charlotte County Chapter of the American Red Cross recognizes all volunteers and celebrates the spirit of volunteerism. At the American Red Cross, we are especially grateful for the hundreds of volunteers who contribute their time, blood and financial support. We know first-hand the selfless nature of people who give with no expectation of being paid for their time.

Duck season returns with running on the Dan

Viny is holding the first of 50,000 adoption papers now being distributed. Adoption papers are available at Italian Delight and many locations throughout the county. The duck race will be held on Saturday, May 16 with the event in Constitution Square from 11 am - 5 pm and the race at 3 pm.
