Members of the Halifax Business Development Committee met with members of the South Boston Farmers Market recently to discuss ways the two groups could work together to have farmers markets in both Downtown South Boston, and in Halifax at the site of the former Farmers Foods store.

Deeds touts education plans at Halifax stopover

State Sen. Creigh Deeds, one of three Democratic candidates running for governor, made a visit to Halifax County Monday night, stopping at Molassis Grill in Halifax. There Deeds stressed his motto: “Better schools, better jobs.” Saying that Virginians are standing at the crossroads of the worst economic depression in many years, Deeds said, “We have to do something extraordinary.” He touted a ten-year plan to create an additional 70,000 college graduates over the next ten years by expanding two- and four-year college programs. “If we build the smartest workforce, the high paying jobs will come to Virginia,” Deeds said.
