Fugitive charged as result of traffic check

A 36 year old South Boston man was arrested on Sunday, April 5 during a traffic checking detail which was conducted by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office. John Tyrone Jones of 1144 Fowler Trail had been charged in Richmond and Pittsylvania County on two felony counts of probation and parole violations. Jones was charged by Deputies C. S. Yeatts and Sgt. D. H. Barksdale.

Perriello visits SVHEC

Congressman Tom Perriello and his legislative aide Ridge Schuyler visited the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center Monday. During the congressman’s visit, he met with the directors of the SVHEC, members of the SVHEC staff, members of the Halifax Educational Foundation, and Halifax IDA Director Mike Sexton. Perriello received an overview and update of the project to renovate the American Tobacco Warehouse. Once completed, the ATW will house the SVHEC’s signature Business of Art & Design program and a Research and Development Center in Energy Efficiencies. Perriello’s visit to the SVHEC was a part of his “New Energy for the 5th” tour.

HCHS locked down for drug search

Law enforcement officials conducted a lockdown today at Halifax County High School from 11:49 a.m. to 12:18 p.m. as a result of a tip received by the Southside Drug Task Force from a confidential informant, said Deputy Superintendent of Schools Larry Clark.
