13-year-old airlifted after Saturday crash / March 29, 2018
Three persons were injured and one, a 13-year-old, was airlifted to Duke University Medical Center for treatment Saturday when a vehicle ran a stop sign and pulled out into U.S. 58, striking another vehicle.

Elizabeth C. Trawick, 43, of Drakes Branch was charged with reckless driving in the March 24 crash, which took place around 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 58 and Route 119, Calvary Road.

According to State Trooper G.L. Goad, Trawick was the operator of a 1993 Chevrolet 2500 that ran through a stop sign at the 58-119 intersection. The vehicle then crossed both eastbound lanes of 58 and the median strip before entering a westbound lane of U.S. 58.

Trawick’s Chevy collided with a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Shekita C. Chandler, 30, of Halifax.

The impact caused Chandler’s vehicle to go over an embankment, overturn and catch fire.

Trawick’s vehicle also careened off the roadway, striking a tree.

Both drivers were injured and required medical transport, but the medflight helicopter was summoned for a 13-year-old male, a passenger in the Chandler vehicle, to rush him to Duke Medical Center for treatment.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.

Goad estimated damages to Trawick’s vehicle at $3,000 while Chandler’s vehicle sustained estimated damages of $6,000.

In another incident Saturday at 11:03 p.m. Trooper G.K. Brandes charged 61-year-old Danny T. Sizemore of South Boston with driving under the influence.

A 1984 Chevrolet K-20 that Sizemore was operating went off State Route 704 about one and a half miles south o f Route 58, striking a tree. Sizemore was not injured and damages to his vehicle were estimated at $1,500.
