A new center for learning

South Boston News
Members of the Clarksville community and Southside Regional Library System celebrated the expansion of the Clarksville library with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday. Renamed the Burnett Library and Learning Center, the facility has 65 percent more space for reading and instructional programs. Doing the ribbon-cutting honors is Joan Burnett (holding scissors), a retired longtime government teacher and wife of the late Benjy Burnett, mayor of Clarksville. Also on hand was Mildred Jolly, seated, who was recognized by program emcee Dr. Charles Lee as a staunch supporter of the Clarksville Area Public Library. After a short program, guests toured the renovated wing, which has been open to the public since mid-July. (Tom McLaughlin photo)
