Donnie Amos has announced his candidacy for Halifax County Circuit Court Clerk. He is running as an independent.

Amos is a native of Halifax County and a graduate of Halifax County High School where he is special education teacher.

Amos is a graduate of Regent University School of Law and has a management/psychology degree from Averett University and a political science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, according to his news release.

He and his wife Susan are members of First Baptist Church in South Boston.

"I urge all of my fellow educators, students, and former co-workers to support my candidacy. I would welcome the opportunity to serve all of the citizens of Halifax County as your Circuit Court Clerk. I would be grateful and appreciative of your support," he said.

Amos becomes the second announced candidate in the race, along with current Circuit Court Clerk Cathy Cosby. Cosby was appointed interim clerk pending the November ballot, a special election to choose a successor to longtime clerk Robert “Bobby” Conner, who retired at the end of 2013.
