Armed robbers hit Dollar General Store on Chatham Road

SoVaNow.com / August 12, 2019

Armed robbers struck Sunday night at the Dollar General Store on Chatham Road in Halifax, threatening a store employee and making off with an undisclosed amount of cash before police could reach the scene.

The incident took place around 10 p.m. when masked subjects gained entry into the Dollar General by breaking out the front glass door. One of the subjects entered the store armed and demanded cash from the cashier. Both subjects fled on foot in separate directions, each in possession of the store’s currency, some of which was later recovered near the scene.

Authorities from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police and the Town of Halifax Police Department responded to the incident and arrived within minutes. A Sheriff’s Office tracking K-9 and a Virginia State Police tracking K-9 responded and it was determined that the subjects fled on foot to a vehicle parked nearby, leaving the area.

No one was injured during the incident.

Both subjects were described as black males and both were wearing masks. Sheriff Fred Clark said authorities are working to determine if this incident is related to recent robberies in the Volens area.

The Halifax County Crime Line has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and convictions of the subjects responsible for the recent robberies. Sheriff Clark asks anyone who may have any information about the robbery or may have seen any type of suspicious activity to please call Investigator Sam Edmonds at (434) 476-3339 or the Halifax County Crime Line at (434) 476-8445.
