Assistant principal joins staff at HCMS

SoVaNow.com / September 12, 2019

Halifax County Middle School is getting a new assistant principal: Withers Jackson, who comes to Halifax from Danville where he previously served in administrative and teaching roles.

Jackson is a former principal of George Washington High School and later became a teacher with the division’s career tech academy. He will begin Sept. 30 in his new post as assistant principal at HCMS.

He replaces Francine Davis, who was named principal of Sinai Elementary School when its principal, Dawn Miller, was chosen by the School Board to become HCMS’s new principal, replacing Magie Wilkerson.

Jackson “brings a lot of experience to the table,” said Superintendent of Schools Mark Lineburg. “We look forward to having him on board with us.”

His salary has been set at $68,793.

This person was Head Principal at GW then moved to a teaching position? Did any of the people hiring him ask WHY he left a head admin job to go back into the classroom? Something isn't right about that.

Concerned, I'll do you one better...he also used to serve in an administrative role in central office in Danville and then started taking steps backwards.

They chose this guy over qualified local people in our system here. Congratulations

From what I have heard, since the main admin switch took place, the atmosphere at the middle school has taken a complete turn for the worse. I have talked to a couple people who would sub there and have said that they will never go back after experiences this year. They said kids used to be under control and disciplined and now they are running wild with no discipline at all. Halifax education needs a complete overhaul before I will support anything with the schools.
