The 55th annual Halifax County Junior Livestock Show & Sale on Monday featured 33 youngsters who showed off 38 animals, steers, goats and lambs.

Ellen Crowder was the top winner of the day with her market steer taking Grand Champion honors. Jessica Conner came in second with her steer taking the Reserve Champion award.

All told, there were twelve steers competing for the prize while another ten lambs were earlier judged for championship honors. Elizabeth Wilkins took the grand champion ribbon for the market lambs with Cameron Reese taking the reserve champion citation in that category.

In showmanship competition West Conner took first place with his junior lamb, followed by Alayna Newby in second, Kendall Crowder, third, Michael Satterfield, fourth and Emory Conner, fifth.

In the senior lamb showmanship contest Elizabeth Wilkins took first, Cameron Reese, second, Thomas Satterfield, third, Libby Fisher, fourth and Jordan Walker fifth.

Showing their junior goats, Heather Vespucci captured first prize, Sabrina Covington, second, Samantha Vassar third and Jim Vespucci, fourth.

In the senior goat showmanship Courtney O’Shea was first with Lydia Ferguson second and Sara Beth Reese, third.

Showmanship winners in the senior cattle division were first place Ellen Crowder, second, Jessica Conner, Berkley Conner, third, Kent Reese fourth and Thomas Bryant, fifth.

In the junior cattle showmanship contest, Rebecca McCormick was first, Lauren Chaney, second, Blake Anderson, third, Case Garland fourth, West Conner, fifth and David Roller, sixth.

Among the market goats, Courtney O’Shea had the grand champion with Sabrina Covington showing the reserve champion, Sara Beth Reese was third, Heather Vespucci, fourth and Jim Vespucci, fifth.

In the replacement doe goats, Courtney O’Shea had the grand champion with Sara Beth Reese the reserve champion and Lydia Ferguson third.

Participating in the show were Blake Anderson, Thomas Bryant, Eddie Chaney, Lauren Chaney, Berkley Conner, Emory Conner, Jessica Conner, West Conner, Sabrina Covington, Ellen Crowder, Kendall Crowder, Lydia Ferguson, Libby Fisher, Casey Garland, Alayna Newby, Rebecca McCormick, Courtney O’Shea, Cameron Reese, Kent Reese, Sara Beth Reese, David Roller, Michael Satterfield, Samantha Vassar, Heather Vespucci, Jim Vespucci, Jordan Walker and Elizabeth Wilkins.
