Baskerville woman dies in Monday collision / January 08, 2020

A two-vehicle crash near the intersection of U.S. 58 and State Route 4 claimed the life of a Baskerville woman early Monday morning.

Tonika D. Wilkins, 41, died at the scene of the crash on U.S. 58, about 1.5 miles west of Route 4. It happened around 1:45 a.m.

Virginia State Trooper B.A. Rhodes is continuing to investigate the collision between a 2010 GMC Terrain driven by Wilkins and a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup driven by 60-year old Tyrone R. Tucker of Baskerville.

Police say Wilkins’ GMC Terrain was heading west in the eastbound lane of U.S. 58 when the vehicle struck Tucker’s Ford truck head-on as it was traveling east on the highway. The impact of the crash caused the GMC to catch fire. Due to the fire, it is unknown if Wilkins was wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Tucker was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Tucker was not wearing a seatbelt, according to State Police.
