Bear causes crash on Route 624 / July 21, 2014
An 80 year old driver, James E. Traynham of Halifax, struck a bear on Tuesday evening, July15 around 8:45 p.m. when the animal ran in front of his 2009 Nissan Sentra.

The incident occurred in the Providence community on State Route 624 about two and a half miles east of its intersection with State Route 625.

Traynham was not injured, but his car suffered some $6,000 in damages, according to a report filed by investigating Virginia State Trooper P. W. Leath.

The bear fled into the nearby woods, his condition unknown.
