Bracey man’s body found after search
SoVaNow.com / December 11, 2013The search for a missing Bracey man, 38-year old Michael Richey, ended Thursday after his body was discovered in a wooded area near the Buckhead subdivision in Bracey.
Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s office Captain, Andy Ezell said his office was contacted late Tuesday by one of Richey’s friends, expressing concern about him.
Richey’s employer, Aqua of Virginia, was able to track the company truck Richey drove using GPS. When they located the vehicle, the employer confirmed that it had not moved from a spot near the Buckhead subdivision since 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Deputies did not find Richey during their initial search. They then called for assistance from the Virginia State Police Richmond and Tidewater area search and rescue teams. The Lake Gaston Volunteer Fire Department offered up their facility as a staging area.
Richey’s body was located Thursday morning, about two-tenths of a mile from where his truck was parked. Ezell said there was no sign of foul play. The body was sent to be autopsied to determine the exact cause of death.
Richey was a facility operator for Aqua of Virginia and the widower of Jenny Sue Richey. He is survived by his companion Sandra “Sandy” Hedrick, Taylor Nicole Richey of Adelphia, Ohio and a daughter and son who lived with him in Bracey, Grace Emmalee Richey of Bracey, and Blake London Richey. He is also survived by his mother Paula Lynn Richey of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, his grandmother Emma Dunigan of Texas, a brother George Thomsen of Sparta, Wisconsin and a sister Dusti Roche of Washington.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m.. in Lake Gaston Christian Life Center, Ebony.
