A Thursday night crash claimed the life of 73-year-old Willa Bland of Brodnax. Two other passengers, Sophronia Everette, 67, and Dianna Barrett, 19, suffered minor injuries. A third unnamed passenger sustained no injuries.

Virginia State Trooper J.A. Williamson reported the crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. and that Bland’s Chevrolet Venture ran off the road, struck two road signs, and an embankment before coming to a stop. The accident occurred at the intersection of Watkins Road and Highway 58 near La Crosse.

Bland was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where she later died.

Williamson estimated the damage to Bland’s car at $3,000. He also said there are no charges pending from this accident.
