Cantaloupe Festival to be held at later date / June 04, 2020

On Wednesday, the Board of Directors of the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce made the difficult decision to postpone the 40th Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival, originally scheduled for Friday, July 24, due to the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and risks to the public health of a large-scale gathering.

The great news is that organizers are diligently monitoring state and federal guidelines so that a new date can be secured as soon as possible.

Once restrictions have been lifted, the new date will be selected, and the community will be notified.

“This decision was not an easy one to make. We felt it was in the best interest of our sponsors and attendees to postpone until we can safely host the event,” stated Mitzi McCormick, Chamber president and CEO. “It is our hope that when we are able to host the festival, it will be a celebration the community and businesses will be ready to attend,” she continued.

Now in its 40th year, the Virginia Cantaloupe Festival is a signature community event bringing together nearly 2,000 attendees from the region and east coast. The event is a celebration of what Halifax County has to offer, featuring locally grown vegetables and cantaloupe. “With approximately 70 percent attending from Halifax County, it is truly a community family reunion,” she continued.

Updates will be given as the situation unfolds and the Halifax County Chamber looks forward to seeing you for our 40th year.
