South Boston News
SoVaNow.com / March 15, 2017
A Clarksville man died and another was transported to the local hospital for treatment of his injuries following a single car wreck on Highway 49 South near Nelson on Tuesday, March 7.

Samuel M. Brummell III was traveling South on Highway 49 when his car, a 2004 Cadillac CTS, ran off the road to the right.

According to Trooper J.J. Kempo, who worked the scene, Brummell overcorrected, swerved back onto the road, before again running off the right side of the road. His car hit a nearby embankment and overturned several times, landing on its roof.

Damages to the vehicle were estimated at $15,000.

At the time of the accident, Kempo said Brummell was travelling in excess of the posted speed limit.

The 65-year-old Brummell died at the scene. His passenger, Chester Hargrove, 56 was transported by EMS to a nearby hospital. His condition was unknown as of press time.

Traffic was diverted off Highway 49 South between One Mile Road and Union Chapel Road for several hours as officials worked to clear the scene.

Kempo said no charges were pending.
