Community forums set on direction of Halifax County schools / September 11, 2017

The first of the five Community Forums will be held Tuesday, at 6 p.m. at Scottsburg Elementary School. The public is invited to join Superintendent of Schools Mark Lineburg in a discussion of five goals for the Halifax County school division.

The objectives, set forth by members of the School Board members during a July retreat in Lynchburg, are as follows:

Work towards full accreditation for all nine county schools;

Determine the long- and short-term facility needs at every school;

Improve compensation with competitive wages and benefits to retain and attract highly qualified personnel;

Review and analyze the policies and procedures in place for student behavior and special education programs;

Improve attendance by both students and staff.

Other issues may be included in the forum, which is intended to be a wide-ranging discussion of conditions and possible improvements at the schools.

Other community forums are planned for Cluster Springs Elementary on Monday, Sept. 18; Sinai Elementary on Monday, Sept. 25; at Sydnor Jennings Elementary on Tuesday, Oct. 10; and at Halifax County High School on Monday, Oct. 16. All of the forum events are set to start at 6 p.m.
