Coronavirus caseload continues to rise in region, state / May 24, 2020
Through Sunday, Halifax County had 29 reported cases of COVID-19 as the disease continues its spread statewide.

Halifax has not seen any deaths from the coronavirus, which has taken the lives of 1,171 Virginians, according to the Virginia Department of Health. This week, the City of Danville reported its second death, while Mecklenburg County is now reporting 20 deaths, the highest per capita death toll in Virginia. Overall, Mecklenburg reported 200 cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday.

Virginia has 36,244 diagnosed cases and 4,214 patients were hospitalized for treatment as of Sunday. Nationwide, the United States was barreling toward 100,000 dead from the virus, with 1.6 million Americans testing positive.
