Varsity collects wins over R-H, Cumberland

SoVaNow.com / January 17, 2013After some of the hard rains of the week, a large pine tree fell onto the 1995 Mercury Villager on Tuesday afternoon at 3:20 p.m. on U.S. 501 about four-tenths mile north of its intersection with State Route 610.
Striking the hood of the northbound SUV, the Nathalie driver, 43 year old Darby Q. McGeorge, and a 15 year old female passenger showed no visible injuries, but both were transported to the local emergency room for observation.
Investigating Virginia State Trooper D. H. Hess estimated damages to the vehicle at some $1,500. There were no charges in the accident which closed a portion of the roadway for over an hour.
Earlier on Tuesday, a 26 year old driver, Cecil M. Cameron of South Boston was not injured when the 1991 Jeep Cherokee he was driving struck a Dominion Power electric pole on Route 654, about one mile south of its intersection with State Route 678 after veering off to the right of the roadway.
Investigating Virginia State Trooper D. T. Spencer charged Cameron with reckless driving, failure to maintain control of the vehicle which suffered an estimated $1,500 in damages.
And in South Boston last Friday night at 9:21 p.m. 59 year old Tyrone Logan of South Boston lost control of the 1999 GMC 1500 he was operating on Hamilton Boulevard. The vehicle traveled across John Randolph Boulevard and struck two vehicles parked at Ernie’s Restaurant.
The parked 1998 Jeep Wrangler suffered $300 in damages while the parked 2007 Honda had another $3500 in damages.
Investigating South Boston Police Officer C. Mann charged Logan with driving under the influence. Damages to his vehicle were set at $6,000.
