Cutting THE ribbon, cutting steel
SoVaNow.com / September 01, 2014The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 to mark the official opening of its new welding lab. The welding lab is located in the Innovation Center, next door to The Prizery, and will serve as the training site for the SVHEC’s newly established welding program.
The new program covers 18 months of study and will provide students with industry credentials with instruction in MIG, TIG, Stick and Pipe welding.
The non-credit program is accredited by the National Center for Construction Education and Research.
Individuals who successfully complete the program will receive NCCER Welding Certification — a portable, third-party validated industry credential recognized by employers across the nation. Classes are provided at different time slots, allowing students more flexibility for instructional time.
Currently 18 students are enrolled in the program.
