Destination Downtown has new board member

SoVaNow.com / April 21, 2014
Destination Downtown has a new board member — Jewell S. Medley who has served as the executive director of the United Way of Halifax County since 2009.

Tamyra Vest, who heads Destination Downtown, announced on Friday that Medley has been asked to join her board and will begin her work with them at their May 16 meeting.

Medley has a long list of connections with nonprofit and human service agencies that focus on education, health and income.

Medley says she is excited to add Destination Downtown South Boston to her roster of community volunteerism activities. She explains that this is just another way to help improve the quality of life for people who live, do business, work and play in this area. “The Town of South Boston has seen growth in a number of areas; however, it has so much more potential, and I can’t wait to see how it evolves,” she said.

Medley currently serves as president of the Dan Valley Chapter of American Business Women’s Assocation of Danville, is vice chairman of the Halifax County Social Services Board, secretary of the Halifax County Emergency Preparedness Committee, is a policy board council member of the Tri-County Action Agency’s Head Start Program, and is a member of the local Lions Club, the Tri Delta Social Club and an advisory board member of the Optima Health/Family Care and a member of the Halifax Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs.

She is a certified philanthropic fundraiser who doesn’t mind collaborating, sharing her time and knowledge to support others with worthy and meaningful initiatives.
