South Boston News
The state title dreams of the HCHS boys basketball team came to an end Friday night in Danville as the Comets were ousted by Freedom-South Riding High School in the VHSL Class 5 state tournament quarterfinals. The game, played at Averett University’s Grant Center, saw the Comets play valiantly in defeat, 59-48. Above, Comet head basketball coach Sterling Williams watches the waning moments of the game with a despondent bench. Despite the loss, it was the most successful season for Comet basketball in four decades, the last time Halifax advanced to state tournament play. The Comets finish the season with a 21-6 record.
