Emergency services chief resigns post

SoVaNow.com / April 19, 2018

Halifax County Emergency Services coordinator Chad Loftis has tendered his resignation, effective immediately.

In Loftis’ stead, Halifax County Board of Supervisors chairman Dennis Witt will serve as commander-in-chief of emergency planning. Fellow supervisors named Witt to serve in the role.

County Administrator Jim Halasz was designated as the deputy commander.

Loftis was not immediately available to comment on the decision.

His departure comes after the Board of Supervisors enacted an Emergency Operations Plan in January — largely at Loftis’ behest. The plan calls for using the county fairgrounds property as the point of distribution for food, water, clothing and other supplies in the event of a major emergency.

Also, Building I in the Southern Virginia Technology Park was named as the joint operation center to be used in case of times when emergencies occur that require state or federal assistance.

Halifax County avoided the brunt of a severe storm on Sunday that spawned National Weather Service-confirmed tornadoes in Pittylvania and Campbell counties and the City of Lynchburg. Lynchburg was especially hard-hit as high winds destroyed homes and overturned vehicles and knocked out power to thousands of local residents.

Virginia has declared a state of emergency in Danville, Lynchburg and surrounding areas as they continue to assess the damage from the storm.

Why in the world would you put an elected offical in charge of this? This county is nuts. I have never seen the level of board intrusion into matters that should be handled by the professional staff (i.e. the Manager's Staff). Woodrow Wilson and other fathers of Public Administration roll over in their collective graves on this foolishness.

At one time Chad had an assistant, why is that person not doing the job?

Seriously, you invoke Woodrow Wilson. Woodrow Wilson was a traitor to this country and the U.S. Constitution. He signed the federal reserve act giving a bunch of unaudited bankers the right to print federal reserve notes that you and I now have to pay interest on and thus the reason for an income tax. Those federal reserve notes are debt instruments and the reason why your coins are not longer silver, pennies no longer copper, and why the spending power of your savings is diminished if you live long enough. So Woodrow Wilson may very well be rolling around. I just hope its not in a grave.

Loftis was forced out. Seems someone had it out for him and is in the finance dept. they helped force the last emergency mgr out....
Loftis is extremely knowledgeable in emergency management and Halasz has no idea what he is attempting to cover besides his own arse.

I would love to know forced out what the person in the finance dept has on everyone in the county. Bound to be something or they would have been fired long ago. Sorry the county has two finance depts., the BOS just dosent like the treasures office. Do away with the county finance dept and go back to the treasurer.

allpolitical2, It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know what the person in the finance dept holds over those in the county. That person is the one in charge of everything and wears the pants in the office. of course, the big question is, "what is the color of the day?" Only those behind the closed doors know what can't be seen beyond those walls, but that in and of itself answers your question.
